Music Awakens the Soul

What is Music?

I learned that music is notes on a page; structure and form. I was taught that music has to have a form. I don’t believe that music can be pinpointed like this.

It seems like music is akin to love, illusive yet very present and real. If music gives us soul, as a theory, where does music originate from? Are we the creators of music or did music create all of us? Is music The Soul?

Is there an underlying music that is always present in our world, as love, as god? So when we create music, are we really just opening up our vessel to extract what is already there?

I’ve never flowed into music this deeply. In doing so, I need to break so many of the structures that I’ve learned.

Journeying Into the Soul of Music

Growing up, there was so much structure in music; literally notes on a page, read through the keys on a piano, my voice or the french horn. These notes were played exactly as they were written, not held for a second more or a second less, never deviating from the form. I suppose this was necessary in the context of classical music, especially when combined with the voices and instruments of everyone else in the group. I just never considered that there was a deeper context to the form.

At some point in time, that music was extracted from the great all that is. It wasn’t just a part of the extensive classical repertoire that lived in the cupboard by the fireplace in the family room of my childhood home.

Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, and Chopin were all just words connected to pieces that resided in a book that I would probably someday learn because that seemed to be the goal; to learn piece after piece to someday perform. I don’t think I ever considered much beyond that point.

But now I am. What is music really? Or rather who is music? Does music have a soul? Is it a soul we can know?

Were these composers in touch with this soul? Did they know who or what they were communicating with?

I believe this blog is setting me up for a deeper exploration in the weeks and years to come.

Where Is the Soul of Music?

That is a bit of an enigma, isn’t it? It’s like asking, “Where is the soul of love?” or “Where is the soul of God?”.

I am going to spend some time with this, really going into my heart and asking this question in the divine mind.

If I am combining myself with the soul of music, I can’t ask anyone else’s opinions. I can’t look to anyone else for advice. I can co-create with others and have an exploratory rehearsing of ideas.

I have to forfeit all ideas and opinions that have led me to believe that music is somewhere far away, that it is not attainable to me in the form that I seek.

Rules are fun to learn. Theory is fun to explore. Did the soul of music write the rules and expand the theory? Or is this humanity’s way of once again trying to understand the unfathomable?

I will travel into the unchartered territories of the divine. Don’t tell me how to play my music. We can say that, can’t we? Just as we would say, I don’t need religion or a church to tell me about my relationship with God, I will say, “this relationship with the soul of music is mine”.

Where is the soul of music? Somewhere in the deep essential nature of my own divine mind.

Does Music Heal Your Soul?

Yes, music heals your soul. Why does music heal your soul? Because it is pure.

Music, at its essence, is pure, just like love at its essence is pure and god in her essence is pure. In the essential nature of god, we are all pure.

When we drop out of the essential nature of god, and imagine ourselves as different from that, we allow ourselves to forget. So, if music in her essential nature is pure, we can allow ourselves to feel that purity.

How Music Heals the Soul

If the music that you are touching is extracted from the great all that is, it can only be pure love. If we surrender ourselves completely to the divine when we create, isn’t the music that we’re creating the purity of grace? And isn’t this purity of grace ultimately what heals us all?

My music allows me to feel the essence of god. My music allows me to sing with strength and grace. My music allows me to feel alive in the oneness of all things.

Whether we are playing music that we have created, playing music that others have created, singing or playing along to music that others have performed, or are listening with every part of our being, we are the creators of this dream.

We create by allowing the pure essence of divinity to open up within us. This music is opening us up to our highest soul calling. As an expression of grace, the divinity of truth is music.

Allow the soul to receive this music and it is free and healed.

What Type of Music Did Einstein Listen To?

According to the few writings that I have found about Einstein and his love for music, his two most favorite composers were Mozart and Bach.

Of Mozart, he was quoted as saying, “The music of Mozart is of such purity and beauty that one feels he merely found it – that it has always existed as part of the inner beauty of the universe waiting to be revealed.”

This reveals exactly what we have been discussing. This reveals the essence of nature in its truest form as a construct in musical form. Why does Einstein live with a violin that he carries almost everywhere, that he finds solace in, and that gives him inspiration when he feels lost for a mathematical equation? When is music a crossover into so many other expressions in this world?

Another apparent quote of Einstein was, “If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.... I get most joy in life out of music.”

So, who the world considered to be one of the most brilliant minds of all time, seemed to see and sense everything through the lens of music. It wouldn’t surprise me if he actually saw his scientific equations as musical scores. It would be lovely to know. I wish there was more of an in-depth exploration of this topic. But, it seems that, in his exploration of music, he found his scientific discoveries, like he described Mozart’s music, “it has always existed as part of the inner beauty of the universe waiting to be revealed”.

Reportedly, Albert Einstein was very attractive and obviously had a brilliant mind, but I love that his second wife, Elsa, said that she fell in love with him “because he played Mozart so beautifully on the violin.”

Music awakens the soul when we are really aware that it has become a part of us, or even more essentially has never been separate from us. When we are awake to the world around us and how it can prepare us for our own opening to the depth of our soul, music is in the ethers waiting for our reunification with it. Why does music want to have an expression here?

Why does the essential nature of God’s love want to have an expression here? Why does love want to be expressed in everything that we do? Why does the “I” want love?

Because we are all one in this consciousness of grace and love. Music is a creative expression of this love, and the creator of this love. We are all music in love.

I have been playing with these ideas and have probably merely brushed the surface with my own musical expression. I will keep going though, because I know there is so much more to explore.

Conclusion

If I have a need for musical exploration in my life, I wasn’t left behind by someone who told me I wasn’t good enough. I wasn’t left behind by the third grade, eighth grade or high school teacher who told me I don’t have what it takes. I wasn’t given the gift of coal by the parents who told me I wasn’t going to be the next Taylor Swift so I’d better invest my time in something that will provide an income.

Music is a blessing. Music is a gift. Music is a flow, and nothing can interrupt that energy within.

Stay with it. Be that blessing of light that you are. Because truly, when we die and we discover the real music that has always been hidden within, will we be happy that we discovered it in this time on earth or will be sad that we didn’t?
